Following Mojang's acquisition by Microsoft, Minecraft Java Edition has been running as is. Bedrock Edition was created to integrate with Microsoft's account system, but Java has been operating on its own Mojang account island up to the present. Java Edition will soon require you to sign up for a Microsoft account to play. However, you'll receive an unrestricted cape. You'll need to transfer your Java or Mojang account to the Microsoft account system in the early part of 2021. Mojang says this is primarily to introduce two-factor authentication to provide greater security, but it will also lead to improved parental control as well as chat and invitation blocking and account integration with Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons. Mojang does not plan to alter Minecraft mods or PvP. Java and Bedrock will remain completely distinct games. You'll be able to continue using your existing Java username, though if you're creating a Microsoft account for the first time, you might need to change your account's name. If you already have a Microsoft account then you'll be able to join your Minecraft sign in right away. Mojang is offering a cape, which was previously the most exclusive Java Edition item: to make the transition easier. You'll get a free cape to take part in the migration, and while it's not adorned with the exclusive patterns of Minecon mantles It will offer everyone the chance to feel royal for a moment. While nothing is likely to change, players have concerns. For instance, the more restrictive terms of service of Microsoft could lead to bans, which could result in certain players being denied access to Minecraft. Further details can be found in the FAQ and the official announcement. We'll see how it shakes out in the early 2021s. extreme craft
