Students will be able to log in to Minecraft: Education Edition using their AISD email address. This information is located in the User Profile menu of the AISD Portal. When a student has entered an AISD email the student will be asked to type their student ID and password into an AISD Portal popup window. This will be the case regardless of the device used by the student. This page has links below for installing Minecraft: Education Edition on any device for students. Scroll down to your device for specific instructions. Before installing a personal computer at home, children must talk to their parents. After Minecraft: Education Edition is installed, you will need to log in each time using your Austin ISD account: YouTube video Directions For Installing On Austin ISD Student Chromebooks Austin ISD Chromebooks capable of running the Android version Minecraft Education Edition must first access the Minecraft installation page from the Google Play Store. Student Chromebooks should find the Google Play icon in the Chromebook Shelf at the lower right of the screen. Only apps approved by the district are available for download in the Google Play store app. Click on the Minecraft Install button in Google Play. This video will demonstrate the steps required to install and access Minecraft: Education Edition on the AISD Chromebook. Instructions for Installing On Non-Austin ISD Windows Computers Click the purple Windows button to download Minecraft Education Edition Windows Desktop Edition. The downloaded file must be located and opened. (It is likely to be in a new browser tab at the bottom of the browser, or in the Windows Downloads folder.) The Windows operating system will walk you through an installation process. Select the language you prefer and then accept the End-User License Agreement. Continue clicking Next until you are asked to click the "Install" button. The installation can take a few minutes before you are able to click the Finish button that will complete the installation. Instructions for Installing Macintosh Computers Click the purple MAC button to download Minecraft Education Edition for Macintosh. The downloaded file should be opened and located. MINECRAFT SERVERS (It will be either open in a new tab at the bottom of the browser or within the Downloads folder.) The Macintosh operating system will guide you through an installation process. Select your language and sign the End-User License Agreement. Continue clicking Next until asked to click the "Install" button. The installation could take a few minutes before seeing a Finish button that will complete the installation. Instructions to install on iPads Students can access Minecraft on an Austin ISD student iPad once their teacher has installed the Minecraft Education Edition app on the student's AISD iPad. Locate the app within the Creator Apps group on the iPad during the school day. Download Minecraft onto your iPad from the iTunes Store. The app is available for free download. The button below will display the app in the iTunes store. Installing the Screencastify Screen Capture Extension Live demonstrations of learning is a great method of demonstrating it. Video screen capture is a great way to show an online activity to students or teachers to capture an electronic product using their recorded voice to describe it. Screencastify is a Chrome extension that has been approved by Austin ISD. MINECRAFT SERVERS Students and staff can add the extension to their Chrome Web Store. Screencastify for students: Student Instructions For Installing Screencastify Austin ISD students have access to the Austin Independent School District Chrome Web Store from which any of the approved applications can be installed. This is the only way to install a Chrome extension or Chrome app on an Austin ISD Chromebook. Start the Chrome launcher on the Chromebook. Find and open the Chrome Web Store App. To view the approved apps list, click the Austin Independent School District link. Find and install Screencastify from this page. The video below demonstrates how to connect to the Chrome web store and install Screencastify. Capture Your Video Once the Screencastify extension is installed, students can create a video up to 5 minutes long. Do a group practice before recording. The presentation video should not exceed 2 minutes in length. Some students may wish to edit the Screencastify video. Your free AISD account comes with a simple video editing tool. Screencastify's Support page gives more details on editing video.
